Psychotherapy

Life cooks us. Early trauma, relationships and spiritual practice turn up the heat. Assistance in times of stress and turmoil helps us to regain center, which is the experience of our essence.

Fear stops us. Anger gets bottled up. Pleasure is withheld. Emotions are part of the flow of life. When they move through us (appropriately channeled and witnessed), we feel more alive. When we are centered in essence, we sit in the flow, savour the richness of Being and unfold our awareness with increasing depth and subtlety.

To schedule a first visit with David, please call the center at 212-580-0013.

David Steinberg is a psychotherapist, yoga teacher and Thai yoga specialist. David has an exztensive background in mental-health services and began as a social worker. He is working towards his PhD in clinical social work and has since worked with a range of patients, both in agency settings and in private practice.

He began practicing yoga in 1994 as a way to balance his own mind, body and spirit while working as a therapist and social worker for destitute children, many of them physically and emotionally abused. Once her realized how yoga was changing his life and health in powerful ways, he decided to become a yoga instructor so that he could bring yoga’s healing powers to his patients.

David has had a private psychotherapy practice on Manhattan’s Upper West Side for five years. His clientele is diverse and eclectic, including media figures, professional, athletes (NY Giants) and musicians.

The Persian mystic/poet Rumi (1207-1273) wrote:

A chickpea leaps over the rim of the pot
Where it’s being boiled
Why are you doing this to me?

The cook knocks it down with the ladle.

Don’t you try to jump out.
You think I’m torturing you,
I’m giving you flavor, so you can mix with the spices and rice and be the lovely vitality of a human being.

Remember when you drank rain in the garden?
That was for this.

Grace was first. Sexual pleasure,
Then a boiling new life begins,
And the Friend (the presence of the Divine)
Has something to eat.
