Yoga is so much more than a great way to exercise and maintain flexibility.

Yoga is not a religion.

Yoga is a time-tested method of cultivating wisdom and living a spiritual life.

Spirit of Yoga

An immersion program in yoga as awakening.

The Spirit of Yoga takes you to the deeper levels of yoga. These subtle realms are not meant as an escape from life. Instead, they inform our living with an awareness of the sacredness of all creation.

Yoga’s original intention was to provide us with a structure (not dictate a specific path) to help us realize our potential as awakened, engaged, creative activists. To live this way requires a clear intention, ethical standards, constant inquiry of Truth and the ability to walk in both worlds.

This program will include instruction in asana, pranayama, meditation, self-inquiry and karma yoga.

YOGA AS A TOOL FOR EVOLUTION

To paraphrase the great contemporary sage, Sri Aurobindo, every evolution of life is an unfolding of the potential that was previously enfolded in it. In his book, The Implicate Order, physicist David Boehm, echoes this thought with his concept of an “implicate enfolded order”. This exists in the unmanifest realm and is the foundation upon which all manifestations rest. Furthermore, all parts are intimately connected in a dynamic web of energetic patterns and forces.

Yoga, an ancient and tested science of enlightenment, is a technique of cultivating the body/mind to become a vehicle for the spirit. The body becomes the access point for the next stage of evolution. We begin by uncovering the quality of basic goodness. This is our natural state of being, before the stress, wounding and images we hold about ourselves. We find that natural state of feeling intrinsically healthy, whole and connected. From here, we can build a new identity. This is the first tool for our awakening.

The second tool for awakening is to develop our internal and external kinesthesia. Before you plumb the depths of the body/mind, before you uncover the potential lurking within, you need to create a map and to reference the known. By becoming adept at how the physical body moves in space, we create reference points so that when we go into interior spaces, we go in stages of journeying into the unknown and referencing it to the known. Bit by bit, you learn how to navigate these realms while staying centered in your core. Bit by bit, you navigate more of your eternal self.
